Is the belt as strong as a chain?
The Kevlar™ reinforced CDrive Belt is stronger than any bicycle chain; it will not stretch or break on a bicycle.
Isn't a belt drive less efficient than a chain?
Normally that is the case. WIth the patented high precision close tolerance engineering of the CDrive system, the power transfer is 98% efficient ; similar to that of a conventional roller chain.
Does the belt wear out quicker than a chain?
Under normal operating conditions, the CDrive belt will last from two to ten times longer than any bicycle chain, and could be even more.
Does the belt skip?
The CDRIVE system will not jump or skip under any normal pedaling pressure.
In some circumstances, a strong and experienced rider 'putting the system to the test' might be able to skip the belt.
This is not recommended as it can lead to shortened belt life.
What is the weight saving compared to a chain system? The combined weight of chain and sprockets are typically more than twice that of the CDrive system which weighs only 300 gms or less.
What is the belt made of?
The belt is made under very carefully controlled conditions using a combination of synthetic materials that include polyurethane, nylon and KEVLAR™.
What are the front and rear sprockets made of? The sprockets are precision moulded to very high tolerance using a special compound of modern composite reinforced materials that are light, stiff and very tough. The rear drive sprocket includes a hardened stainless steel insert.

Won't the belt need regular tensioning to prevent it from falling off or skipping?
Once tensioned during installation at the factory, the CDrive belt will not need any further adjustment.
Can the CDrive belt system work on any bike?
The system is not recommended for Mountain bikes or other situations where conditions could be very muddy. Otherwise, it's suitable for any kind of bicycle that has been designed to use the system.
What makes CDrive different than other belt drive systems? This is a proven system using a patented belt and sprocket interface made to extremely close tolerance specifications. No other system for bicycles has been engineered to such high specifications.
Can any 8mm pitch sprockets be used with the belt?
No; the patented sprocket and belt combination of the CDrive system must be used together to achieve a satisfactory result.
What kind of gearing system can the CDrive work with? Shimano, Sturmey Archer, SRAM all make internal gear hubs that can be used with the system. It cannot be used with the Sturmey Archer 8 speed large sprocket gears.
|
Does the belt need any lubrication or maintenance? No, the belt will never need lubrication. The only maintenance required might be to occasionally wash off any grit or dust that might accumulate on the sprockets with a brush and water.
Can a spring tensioner arm be used to tension the belt? No; that kind of system does not provide sufficient tension for the CDrive belt. Any regular threaded chain tensioner on both dropouts will work fine.
Will the belt fall off?
No, Once the belt and sprockets have been properly installed during the assembly process, the belt will always remain in place.
What is the production lead time for OEM orders? This is currently 60 days; the Belt and sprockets are shipped FOB Los Angeles USA.
Is there a charge for factory samples?
There is a charge for samples to bike manufacturers that covers a set (belt + 2 sprockets) and the cost of shipping immediately to anywhere in the world using an express courier.
